There’s that word again: maverick. In Thursday’s vice-presidential debate, Gov. He was more interested in keeping track of the land he owned than the livestock on it, Ms. Maverick said; unbranded cattle, then, were called “Maverick’s.” The name came to mean anyone who didn’t bear another’s brand.Sam Maverick’s grandson, Fontaine Maury Maverick, was a two-term congressman and a mayor of San Antonio who lost his mayoral re-election bid when conservatives labeled him a Communist. He served in the Roosevelt administration on the Smaller War Plants Corporation and is best known for another coinage. He came up with the term “gobbledygook” in frustration at the convoluted language of bureaucrats.This Maverick’s son, Maury Jr., was a firebrand civil libertarian and lawyer who defended draft resisters, atheists and others scorned by society. He served in the Texas Legislature during the McCarthy era and wrote fiery columns for The San Antonio Express-News. His final column, published on Feb. 2, 2003, just after he died at 82, was an attack on the coming war in Iraq.Terrellita Maverick, sister of Maury Jr., is a member emeritus of the board of the San Antonio chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union of Texas.Considering the family’s long history of association with liberalism and progressive ideals, it should come as no surprise that Ms. Maverick insists that John McCain, who has voted so often with his party, “is in no way a maverick, in uppercase or lowercase.”“It’s just incredible — the nerve! — to suggest that he’s not part of that Republican herd. People that piss me off (just for fun!)

i thought this would be a humorous stab at some of the people that piss me off...or annoy...

1. these are in no particular order but my number one, cant freakin stand guy is Billy Crystal!! oh my god this is the most annoying dude i have ever laid eyes on!! the sheer smuggness of this little grotesque man is enough to make my skin crawl...the way he thinks everything he says should be followed by adoring applause.the sight of his face is an instant channel changer...

2. while i am attacking old, out of touch comedians...robin williams comes to mind as a very very annoying mother f'er...he is another one that thinks what he says is sooo brilliant we should bow down to his genius...what seperates him from ole BC is the fact that some of his early stuff isnt too bad (ie, mork and mindy)...but at least the last decade has been nothing but the same old tired ohh look at me i am crazy act that he has just driven into the ground.

3. so how about new comedians you say? does it get more mindless than dane cook? this dude has never even written a joke of his own...he uses the old funny high school jokes of yesteryear and drivels on them until they are dumbed down for the masses..yeah yeah we know dude...the shocker...hilarious...zzzz....if there is a bigger faker douchebag out there today i would like to see him...

4. a little special mention for the worst thing ever to happen to snl...chris cattan...i am not even bothering to check if that is how you spell his name...you know who i am talking about...the guy with one character...just act really really gay...now i could care less if someone is gay...i am no homophobe...but if your act is solely based on acting like you are a flaming gay 12 year old...kill yourself.

5. a few recent additions...after seeing tony snow...some bush cabinet member or something...on the bill maher show the other day. iwould like to smack that shiteating grin off his right wing face...he says the middle class is doing just fine!! people are happy and thriving!! he didnt know what they were talking about...when is the last time he has met a middle classer?? what does he even consider middle class...the people that !gasp! dont live inside the gated community...he was the biggest apologist spin doctor i have ever seen...he needs a beating...

6. also newly added is sd chargers qb phillip rivers...doesnt anyone win with class anymore...i guess not...now. i am not a colts fan...browns are my team (whole 'nother story) anyways...this douche got hurt and is sidelined...as his backup wins the game for them...he is over taunting fans and yelling god only knows into the stands! this is supposed to be your team leader acting like an infant...

7. and obviously he is a great player...but can somebody tell ladainian tomlinson to stop wearing womens earrings...we know you are rich and whatever...but those stupid looking earrings have got to stop!!

i just saw a report that said the republican candidate mike huckabee from arkansas is really gaining steam and his numbers are on the rise!! this is what we want! another fundamentalist christian in the white house!!! this guys beleives the earth is 12,000 years old!! this guy doesnt believe in evolution!!! so let me get this straight...we have physical proof of dinosaurs...but no physical proof of the bible being true...but he is just gonna go with his gut on this one?? isnt it time we start using our heads a little bit here...COME ON...DINOSAURS WERE REAL...THE BIBLE WAS WRITTEN BY HUMANS...LET GO OF WHAT YOUR WHACKED OUT PARENTS TAUGHT YOU BY DROPPING YOU OFF IN SUNDAY SCHOOL WHILE THEY TRIED TO GO IMPRESS THEIR PEERS BY SHOWING UP FOR CHURCH...ITS ALL BULLSHIT!!!

obviously what happened was a tragedy of mass proportions...the world is a sick place. my thoughts go out to the parents...i can't even imagine...being a parent has totally changed my view of these types of events. i used to just not really think about shit like this i guess...but now with one child and another on the way i strictly see it from that point of view...and it makes me cry to be honest with you...but that is what you should do when you are forced to think about the unthinkable...even thinking about having to explain things like this to my innocent little girl just seems unbearable...but i am not an idiot either...as a parent you have to tell them everything before they hear it from someone (probably some asshole! lol) else's point of view. but the fact remains...life is precious and short...a

Imus...

all i really have to say about the imus situation...is who really gives a shit?? i dont know anybody that listened to imus...ever...the only way i knew of him was he was the asshole in the howard stern movie...imus always came off as some rich asshole who thought he was better than everyone else...so fuck him...as for what he said....who really gives a shit about that either...he was a 66 year old white man trying to be cool...thinking he was being hip and funny...so al sharpton needs to get his panties unbunched and relax...i am sure there are tons of real causes he should be fighting for...

babel...

so i had a home alone night the other night (after olivia went to bed...) and i rented and watched babel with brad pitt and cate blanchett...another friend of mine said it was great...

this one i was loving the whole way through...the cinematography was excellent...sort of a new age easy rider...with a cool soundtrack, very erie! and for some reason i do like brad pitt...and cate blanchette is always great...but...then...nothing really ties together the way you want it to...it just sort of ends. it was like 2 1/2 hours long and could have been at least another 1/2 hour longer. it doesnt seem like the kind of movie that they would be holding out for a sequel or anything...it just leaves you hanging ...

i realize these kinds of movies are to make you think and just sort of throw real life right in your face...but i gotta bitch about something right? a

Is it just me??

so...is it just me or is the new lucinda williams cd...west...really hard to listen to. i really like alot of her stuff from car wheels and world w/o tears...but this one just seems to drag on and she never breaks out of the monotone dull dragging vocal style that she perfected on previous attempts but seems to rely solely on here. she just needs to mix it up a little or something...
